YPD Apprehends California Suspect Linked to Double Homicide

Yuma, Arizona ( Aiexpress) – A traffic check on a bike results in the arrest of a double homicide suspect from California.

According to the Yuma Police Department (YPD), the arrest occurred on Monday at approximately 2:25 p.m. when an officer conducted a traffic stop with a bicyclist on W. 16th Street, near E. Main Canal Road, for a civil traffic infraction.

According to YPD, the bicyclist, later identified as 43-year-old Danny Garibay, gave a bogus name and date of birth before escaping on the bicycle, forcing the officer to pursue Garibay, who then abandoned the bicycle and leaped over a wall into an apartment complex.

The officer apprehended Garibay, who continued to refuse to reveal his “identifying information,” and according to YPD, Garibay was in possession of “a small quantity of methamphetamine and a pistol with a defaced serial number.”

Garibay was subsequently transferred to Yuma Sector Border Patrol for identification, and YPD informed him that he had a “outstanding arrest warrant out of Atwater, California,” for a double homicide that occurred in October 2023.

Garibay was then placed into Yuma County Detention Center “for multiple offenses and is pending extradition to California,” according to YPD.
