Man Dies After Jumping from Route 8 Bridge, Akron Police Confirm

AIexpress – Akron police say a 46-year-old man died Tuesday night when he jumped off the state Route 8 bridge.

In an email, Capt. Michael Miller said that when police arrived at the northbound Route 8 bridge at 5:06 p.m., they had “very brief contact or interaction” with the man, who was upset and making threats to jump.

Miller said that the man jumped off the bridge a few minutes later.

“Officers reportedly attempted to establish rapport, de-escalate, and encourage the subject to come off the edge, but unfortunately, he jumped from the bridge and caused his death,” said Miller.

Additionally, Miller made it clear that there was no sign that the responding cops had touched or grabbed the man physically.
