Aiexpress – Even a thunderstorm couldn’t stop the New Year’s Eve revelers in Times Square from waiting for the ball to drop.
On Tuesday, December 31, hundreds of thousands of people gathered in Times Square, New York City, to bid farewell to 2024 and welcome the New Year. However, this year’s festivities have turned out to be a soggy affair.
Meteorologists had forecasted a rainy New Year’s Eve earlier in the day, and their predictions were confirmed as rain fell on guests. Thunder could even be heard during broadcasts of the celebrations, such as CNN’s New Year’s Eve with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen and ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.
According to CBS News New York, an estimated 1 million people have gathered in Times Square, and they are not deterred by the weather, despite the fact that umbrellas are not permitted. Vanessa Murdock, the local channel’s meteorologist, provided an update around 10:00 p.m. local time, stating that New York City was experiencing lightning, wind, and heavy rain with a cool 45-degree temperature.
Despite the rain, the Jonas Brothers, Megan Moroney, and TLC performed their ’90s songs “Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs.”
Meanwhile, social media fans watching from home couldn’t help but comment on the wet event.
“Merry New Year, everyone!” one user posted on X. “I’m going to bed early just as the thunder, lightning and rain is starting…..hope the people in Times Square brought their rain ponchos.”
Another user commented, “Is it pouring down rain in Times Square?” “2024 will go out like a lion.”
