Two People Arrested in Connection to Murder of Ft. Campbell Soldier

Two people have been arrested in the murder of a 23-year-old Army soldier who was found dead in her Clarksville apartment last year. The victim, Katia Duenas Aguilar, was stationed at Ft. Campbell and had been living in Clarksville at the time of her death.

According to the police, Sofia Rodas, a 35-year-old woman, has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. The second person arrested is Katia’s husband, Reynaldo Salinas Cruz, 40, who is facing charges for tampering with evidence as well.

Katia Duenas Aguilar’s body was found on May 18, 2024, by her friend who went to check on her after she had not answered her phone. Katia’s friend found her body locked inside her room at The Centre on Tiny Town Road, a complex in Clarksville where she had been living.

An investigation revealed that Katia had been brutally stabbed nearly 70 times. Her death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy confirmed the tragic cause of death.

The case was still being actively investigated when the arrests were made over the weekend. Both Sofia Rodas and Reynaldo Salinas Cruz were already in jail on unrelated charges before being extradited to Clarksville to face charges in Katia’s case.

Katia’s close friend spoke to reporters about how she was a loving mother and had been living in Clarksville for the past five years. She was originally from Texas but had moved to Tennessee after being stationed at Ft. Campbell, a military base near the city.

Katia’s little boy is now left without his mother, and the family is still processing the grief of losing her so suddenly and violently. The police have not revealed further details about the motive behind the murder but are continuing to investigate.

The case remains open, and authorities have stated that they are working hard to bring justice for Katia and her family. They have urged anyone with more information about the case to come forward.

As the investigation continues, local residents and friends of Katia are left in shock and sadness, struggling to understand what led to the death of a young woman who served her country and left behind loved ones.
