12-year-old Dies And 2 Others Wounded In Shooting At School In Finland, Police Say

A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday morning at a school in Finland, where a 12-year-old lost their life and two others sustained injuries in a shooting incident. According to authorities, the perpetrator responsible for this act of violence was another student.

Finnish police have stated that the suspect has been arrested and the investigation into the act is ongoing.

According to the police, the suspect, who is a 12-year-old student at the school, was found with a firearm at the time of their arrest.

According to a press release from the police, no force was employed during the apprehension of the suspect. However, a firearm was discovered in the possession of the suspect. Furthermore, the suspect confessed to the act during the preliminary interview conducted by the police.

Earlier, police reported that three 12-year-olds sustained injuries in the shooting. However, they later revealed that one of the children tragically lost their life at the scene. The remaining two injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment and are hospitalized, according to the police.

“The incident in Vantaa, where the shooting took place, has left me deeply shocked,” expressed Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in a heartfelt statement shared in Finnish. He further added, “My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, as well as the students and staff of Viertola school during this difficult time.”

President Alexander Stubb expressed his well wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured individuals.

The police received a report at around 9 a.m. about a shooting incident at the Jokiranta school, which is a part of the Viertola school in Vantaa, located on the outskirts of Helsinki.
