Beauvais confessed to consuming alcohol and marijuana, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors say Beauvais admitted drinking and consuming marijuana before driving on April 27, 2021.

Beauvais was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat when he swiftly maneuvered through the traffic cones and collided with the detective.

Tsakos was catapulted into the air and landed around 170 feet away on the highway shoulder, according to prosecutors. His left leg was cut below the knee, and he died in a neighboring hospital.

After a three-mile police chase, Beauvais was apprehended as she attempted to flee the scene. Law enforcement officials reported that two hours later, her blood alcohol content was .15, which exceeds the legal limit of .08.

Beauvais received the maximum sentence of 20 years for aggravated manslaughter in the second degree.

She received an extra 2 1/3 to 7 years to serve consecutively for the offense of leaving the scene.

Beauvais initially turned down a plea agreement that offered a sentence of 16 years.
