3 People Shot At Ramadan Event In Philadelphia

Three people were shot Wednesday at a Philadelphia event commemorating Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, according to Philadelphia police.

According to the police, two groups of young men began firing at each other in the middle of the gathering, injuring two people: a 22-year-old and a 15-year-old. A responding police officer shot a 15-year-old teenager armed with a handgun twice, according to the agency.

Police stated all three gunshot victims were in stable condition. A police car struck a 15-year-old girl during the response, causing her to sustain minor injuries.

Police said five people were arrested in connection with the incident, and five guns were found at the scene.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) stated in a post on X that State Police are in contact with Philadelphia Police and have pledged “full support as they respond to this afternoon’s shooting in West Philadelphia.”

“Eid should always be a time of joy for our Muslim neighbors, and I grieve for every member of the Philadelphia Muslim community whose celebration was shattered by gun violence today,” Shapiro wrote in a blog post.
