2024 Solar Eclipse: Indiana Residents Advised to Stay Home; ISDA Offers Free Eclipse Glasses

Aiexpress – The 2024 solar eclipse is expected to draw large crowds to Indiana, potentially causing traffic congestion. Authorities are asking rural residents in the totality zone to stay at home to reduce travel. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon throws a shadow on Earth, covering the sun’s light. It is a stunning natural phenomenon that draws large audiences.

The totality path, which starts at daybreak and ends at nightfall, covers a sizable portion of Indiana. The remainder of the state will see a partial eclipse with approximately 90% totality. The totality route will strike Indiana between 3:01 and 3:12 p.m. EDT, with the moon’s shadow moving at a speed of approximately 1,700 to 1,850 miles per hour.

Around 4 million Indiana citizens live in the path of totality. It is predicted that up to 581,000 people will travel to Indiana for the eclipse. The areas closest to the eclipse centerline, including Vincennes, Bloomington, Franklin, and north of Richmond, are expected to receive the most people.

The total solar eclipse will pass over Indiana on April 8, 2024, beginning at 3:12 p.m. EDT. The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) prepares by distributing eclipse glasses to households.

The ISDA will hand out the glasses on a first-come, first-served basis at various places to be revealed. These glasses will allow people to safely observe the unusual solar eclipse. Individuals will receive a pair of glasses for free, and they do not need to be customers at the pick-up sites.
