Aiexpress – In a ghastly spectacle reminiscent of 1960s Vietnam, a man set himself on fire in front of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC, today.
According to a Daily Mail article, the man was wearing a camouflage uniform and was a member of the United States Air Force, but this is unconfirmed, and there is no information on whether he was active or not.
Self-immolation, whether the perpetrator expects to live or not, is not something I can condone. I’m only speaking for myself, but this is fairly out-of-control behavior. Also, I’m curious how someone in military fatigue was allowed inside 200 meters of any foreign embassy. According to the Jerusalem Post, no one on the embassy staff knew who the demonstrator was.
While we’re on the subject of describing insane behavior, Major Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip, said in a statement on the Palestinian Authority’s official website today, “The Israeli occupation’s continued prevention of the entry of basic food supplies and medical treatment for besieged citizens in the Gaza and North governorates threatens the lives of more than 700,000 citizens with death every moment.”
According to the press release, “the suffering of citizens in Gaza and the north is worsening daily, as thousands of them are waiting to die either due to hunger or Israeli targeting, in light of a suspicious Arab and international silence in the face of this suffering and daily killing.”
True, the daily news of this battle appears to be disappearing from the headlines. It’s interesting how the mainstream media has shifted its focus to the Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
Oh, certainly, longer trade routes and greater insurance premiums have an impact on the elite’s bottom line. Dead children do not.
While the decision to set oneself on fire is so insane that I wouldn’t even recommend it to the most ardent adherents of the church of woke, no matter how much such a self-imposed culling might benefit the body politic, events like today serve no purpose other than to harden what has already escalated into a zero-sum conflict.
