Justice Clarence Thomas Hires Law Clerk Who Allegedly Wrote Racist Texts

Aiexpress – The New York Times reports that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has hired a law clerk who has been accused of sending racist text messages. The Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University stated that Crystal Clanton, a former Turning Point USA national field director, will work for Thomas in the 2024–2025 term. Clanton was accused in a 2017 New Yorker story of sending a text message to fellow Turning Point members that said, “I hate black people,” although she has subsequently claimed she does not recall the exchanges. Her lack of recollection did not prevent future disagreements. Because of the purported communications, a federal appeals court looked into an appellate judge’s decision to hire Clanton in 2022 but found no evidence to support charges of racism. Clanton received assistance in that study from the chief judge of Atlanta’s federal appeals court, who hired her, as well as Thomas himself. “I know Crystal Clanton, and I know bigotry,” Thomas stated at the time, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Bigotry is antithetical to her nature and character.”
