Reggae Band Morgan Heritage’s Lead Vocalist, Peter Morgan, Passes Away At Age 46

Aiexpress – Peter Anthony Morgan, 46, the main singer of the iconic reggae band Morgan Heritage, which he created with four siblings, died on Sunday, his family reported. The family requested privacy and thanked everyone in advance for their love and support. The social media posting provided no information on the cause of death.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed on social media that his “heart is heavy” over the news. He described Morgan’s death as a “colossal loss” to Jamaican and reggae music.

Morgan, often known as “Peetah,” was the son of famed Jamaican reggae musician Denroy Morgan. In 1994, he and his siblings founded Morgan Heritage, and in 2016, the band won a Grammy for best reggae album for “Strictly Roots.”

“His voice was so special, and his contribution to reggae music globally was incredible,” renowned British reggae deejay David Rodigan wrote on social media, adding that he was “shocked and saddened” to learn of Morgan’s passing.

Roy “Gramps” Morgan, one of Morgan’s brothers, relocated to Tennessee and set out to introduce reggae to Nashville.

In 2018, Morgan highlighted the storytelling aspect of reggae and country music. He explained to The Associated Press that both genres excel in narrating tales. “If you follow reggae music and country music, it’s a lot of storytelling,” he said. “In reggae, we tell the story of people suffering.”

Una Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan were the other siblings who played a vital role in establishing the band.
