Fatal shooting outside Pennsylvania Walmart leaves 1 dead, 1 in custody

A fatal shooting took place outside a Walmart store in eastern Pennsylvania on Monday afternoon, prompting an investigation by state police.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the shooting occurred in Punxsutawney in Young Township, located approximately 80 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Troopers said they responded to the establishment at 12:15 p.m. after two unidentified males got into a fight and one shot the other.

Troopers did not reveal the identities or ages of either person involved in the shooting, and it was unclear what the males argued over.

There were no further injuries reported by the troopers.

Shooter taken into custody

According to a news release, the authorities have taken the suspected shooter into custody, ensuring that there is no longer any danger to the public.

The Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company took to Facebook to warn people to stay away from the area surrounding the business. They advised caution due to the significant police presence following the reported shooting.

Walmart says its working with police

According to WJLA-TV, a Walmart spokesperson stated that the safety of customers and associates is one of their top priorities. They also mentioned that they will cooperate with law enforcement as they carry out their investigation and direct any additional inquiries to the police.

Every year on February 2, the borough of Punxsutawney hosts its famous Groundhog Day celebration.
