35 Years Old New Mom Killed By Car On Capital Beltway: Police

The family of a 35-year-old Alexandria mother, who died in a sad accident over the weekend, is receiving outpourings of support.

Vanessa V. Schwartz “stepped into traffic” when she was hit and killed on the eastbound lanes of the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, Virginia State Police said.

According to authorities, a 2021 Acura RDX struck Vanessa after a Honda Accord was unable to avoid her. According to authorities, the Acura collided with a 2023 Nissan Rogue and the jersey wall.

As of Tuesday, March 11, a GoFundMe page set up for Vanessa’s husband, Michael, and their 8-month-old daughter, Lucy, had raised over $20,000. Vanessa was recalled in the campaign as a caring mother, wife, and daughter.

“She was a sweet, generous, loving, and caring woman whose life was cut short by the negligence of a driver for what was supposed to be a safe ride home,” the lawsuit said.
