Comer Argues That Impeachment Vote Is Not The Most Effective Approach For Investigating Biden

House Oversight and Accountability Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) expressed his belief that pursuing criminal referrals may be a more effective approach than pursuing an impeachment vote against President Biden. Comer indicated that he does not view impeachment as the optimal course of action and believes that criminal referrals hold greater potential.

“I personally believe that the most effective way to ensure accountability is through criminal referrals,” Comer expressed during his interview with Newsmax hosts on Thursday.

The Oversight Committee conducted a hearing on Wednesday regarding the impeachment inquiry involving Biden. Democrats urged Republicans to specify the illegal activities that form the basis of their investigation, amidst increasing uncertainty surrounding the future of the inquiry into the president’s business transactions.

In the interview, Comer made a case for what he believes constitutes “real accountability” for Biden. According to Comer, this would involve presenting legitimate criminal referrals to the Department of Justice. He expressed concern that any impeachment proceedings against Biden would be dismissed by the Democratic-controlled Senate, similar to how they handled the Merrick Garland impeachment.

“I am in favor of impeaching Joe Biden immediately. The purpose of the impeachment inquiry was to provide us with additional resources to gather more evidence and strengthen our case in court,” he expressed his stance.

During the hearing, Democrats wasted no time in questioning Comer and other GOP members about the specific crime or misdemeanor that serves as the basis for their investigation.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) expressed her doubts about the impeachment process, questioning its validity in the absence of any formal charges from the GOP. She emphasized that she has not received any clear indication from Comer regarding specific charges against Biden, as his statements mostly focused on alleged wrongdoing by the “Biden family.”

During the hearing, Ocasio-Cortez expressed her concerns about the specific allegation not being presented by the committee. She emphasized that the problem lies in the absence of the necessary information. According to Ocasio-Cortez, the story revolves around the committee’s knowledge of working with falsified evidence.

Comer maintained his stance even after the hearing, asserting that “the Bidens” have engaged in criminal activities by selling access to the president.

Comer took to the internet to announce that he plans to invite President Biden to testify before the committee in the near future. According to Comer, the purpose of this invitation is for the President to provide an explanation as to why his family received substantial amounts of money from foreign companies with his help.
