Trump Election Interference Case Resurfaces Following Fani Willis’s Disqualification Bid

The judge in charge of the case involving former President Donald Trump’s alleged interference in the Georgia election has set a hearing for Thursday. During this hearing, oral arguments will be presented regarding various motions filed by Trump and his co-defendant, David Shafer.

The upcoming hearing marks an important milestone following the unsuccessful disqualification attempt of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who initiated the case.

Judge Scott McAfee has granted Trump permission to appeal his disqualification ruling, ensuring that the case will continue to progress in the meantime.

Earlier this month, McAfee made the decision to not completely dismiss Willis despite allegations that she had financially benefitted from a romantic relationship with prosecutor Nathan Wade. However, McAfee did rule that either Willis or Wade would have to step aside from the case. As a result, Wade chose to resign as the special prosecutor.

In August of last year, Trump and 18 others entered pleas of not guilty to a comprehensive racketeering indictment. The charges were related to their alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

Kenneth Chesebro, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, and Scott Hall later entered into plea agreements in which they agreed to testify against other defendants.

The district attorney’s investigation has been criticized by the former president for being politically motivated.
