U.S. and coalition warships successfully neutralize four Houthi drones targeting them

The US Central Command announced Thursday night that it had destroyed four Houthi drones that had fired on a US warship and a coalition vessel in the Red Sea.

According to US Central Command, it occurred between 6 and 10:56 p.m. local time Thursday in Sanna, Yemen.

“The United States Central Command successfully engaged and destroyed four unmanned aerial systems fired by Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen. The UAS targeted a Coalition vessel and a US battleship, acting in self-defense over the Red Sea. “There were no reported injuries or damage to US or coalition ships,” CENTCOM stated.

The US Navy ships, merchant vessels, and freedom of navigation were the targets of the operations, according to CENTCOM. According to the statement, the firearms posed an imminent threat.

According to the US Navy, on March 6, a Houthi attack on a merchant ship in the Gulf of Aden killed three individuals and injured at least four more. The ship sustained substantial damage.

The Houthis insist that ship crews are not the target of their attacks.

“We ask them not to cross,” Houthi spokesman Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti stated on X. “American and British insistence on the continuation of genocide in Gaza, the starvation of its population, and its aggression against Yemen is what led to this dangerous escalation.”

The Liberian-flagged cargo freighter Pinocchio was under fire from two Houthi anti-ship ballistic missiles on March 12 as it traveled through the Red Sea, but the missiles missed and the ship escaped unharmed.

Central Command then conducted six attacks against an underwater drone and 18 anti-ship missiles in Yemen.

In mid-January, both the United States and the United Kingdom launched airstrikes on the Houthis in an effort to protect shipping and weaken the Houthis’ ability to attack ships.

The Houthis claimed that they initiated the attacks in order to show their support for the Palestinians who were being killed by Israel in Gaza following the Hamas assault on Israel on October 7th, which led to Israel invading Gaza.
