White House addresses GOP criticism amid coinciding of Transgender Day of Visibility with Easter

President Biden faced criticism from Republicans for his annual proclamation recognizing March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility, a tradition he has upheld since taking office in the Oval Office.

Republicans criticized Biden for mocking faith as Easter falls on March 31 this year. The Trump campaign and House leadership were among those who targeted Biden.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) expressed his disappointment on social media, stating that the Biden White House has betrayed the fundamental principle of Easter, which revolves around the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The campaign of Trump released a statement urging the president to apologize to the millions of Catholics and Christians in America who believe that tomorrow is solely meant for celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Critics from the conservative camp have voiced their disapproval of the president, who follows the Catholic faith, arguing that his decision to acknowledge the occasion on Easter, a significant religious holiday, is tantamount to undermining faith.

On Saturday, Andrew Bates, a spokesperson for the White House, issued a response.

President Biden’s spokesperson, Bates, emphasized the significance of Easter as a time for family and unity. They highlighted that as a Christian, President Biden values the importance of bringing people together and promoting the dignity and freedoms of all Americans.

“It is truly disheartening to see politicians resorting to divisive and detrimental tactics, using cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric to further their own agendas. President Biden, on the other hand, is committed to upholding his faith with integrity and will never exploit it for political gain or personal profit.”

The Transgender Day of Visibility, which has been observed for the past 15 years, aims to honor and celebrate transgender individuals while shedding light on the challenges and discrimination they endure. It is worth noting that the date of Easter varies annually.
