Over $500K raised to support families affected by Baltimore bridge collapse

Over half a million dollars have been raised to help the families of victims of the Baltimore Bridge collapse, which killed six people and injured two.

According to the Washington Post, the city government, nonprofit organizations, and the workers’ company have all contributed money, totaling more than $500,000 so far.

The Latino Racial Justice Circle, a Baltimore-based charity, set up a GoFundMe page on Wednesday, the day after a Singapore-flagged container ship en route to Sri Lanka collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge and collapsed.

The Latino Racial Justice Circle’s GoFundMe campaign surpassed expectations, raising more than $98,000. With the incoming financial support, the organization terminated the campaign and pointed potential donations to a new one.

The Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MIMA) and the Baltimore Civic Fund organized the new fundraising, which has raised more than $311,000, according to The Post.

According to the most recent figures, Brawner Builders, the company that employed the workers murdered in the Tuesday incident, established a GoFundMe account that has raised more than $52,000.

“These employees were hard at work to help make these Maryland roads and bridges safe for the motoring public when this tragedy struck,” the business stated in a statement. “They leave behind spouses, children, parents, and other loving family members.”

The League of United Latin American Citizens has contributed more than $8,900 in order to “provide immediate financial assistance to the affected families, helping them navigate through these trying times with dignity.”

Other fundraisers for specific families raised more than $65,000, according to the outlet. Maynor Suazo Sandoval, 38, a missing worker believed to be dead, is the beneficiary of one of them.
