Moore dismisses DEI responsibility for bridge collapse: ‘I have no time for foolishness’

Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) dismissed conservative criticisms that cited diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as a factor in the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. Moore emphatically stated that such claims were irrelevant and brushed them off.

Several GOP figures have pointed fingers at “DEI” for the bridge collapse last week. The incident occurred when a container ship collided with a support column, causing the bridge to collapse into the Patapsco River, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives.

Moore chose not to respond to the criticisms.

In a recent interview with Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union,” he firmly stated that he has no time for foolishness. His primary focus remains on providing closure and comfort to the affected families and ensuring the safety of our first responders, who are doing remarkable work.

“We are focused on reopening this channel and getting our boats and ships back on the water to revive our economy. Our top priority is taking care of our people, including first responders, families, and small businesses who have been greatly affected by this situation,” he emphasized. “Furthermore, we are committed to rebuilding the Key Bridge. I have no patience for unnecessary distractions and will not waste time on them.”

Utah state Rep. Phil Lyman (R) and Florida congressional candidate Anthony Sabatini (R) were among the most vocal proponents of DEI.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott strongly criticized the comments as racist and race-baiting. He stated that referring to him as a “DEI mayor” was simply a substitute for racial slurs.

According to Scott, “Black people have been seen as the bogeyman since they were first brought to this country. In my opinion, when they talk about ‘DEI’, what they really mean is ‘duly elected incumbent’.”

“We understand their intentions, even though they lack the bravery to utter the N-word. It’s clear that their deceitful and misguided ideology doesn’t resonate with me,” he expressed. “I take immense pride in my heritage, identity, and roots, which intimidates them. My position challenges their complacency, where they enjoy comfort while others endure suffering. They should fear the consequences because it is my life’s mission to disrupt their way of thinking and their privileged existence.”
