Former Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis was discovered deceased on Monday morning in a residence located in Southwest Ranches.

Adaline Davis, the grandmother of a former Miami Dolphins cornerback, is the owner of the house located on SW 178th Avenue, as per Broward property records.

Davis’ former coach, Chester Frazier, also reported the death on X, which was formerly Twitter.

During a Zoom news conference Monday, Fighting Illini head football coach Bret Bielema stated that while he did not coach Davis, he did compete against him as an assistant coach in the NFL.

Bielema described Davis as a “very loved” athlete at Illinois, emphasizing his “passion” and “intensity.”

“I just saw an incredibly talented player; I checked all the boxes,” Bielema remarked at the time. “I knew he was going to be a great player, not just in college but in the NFL.”

The Dolphins signed Davis in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, but during training camp in 2012, they traded him to the Indianapolis Colts.

Davis is best known for announcing his retirement in the middle of a 2018 game between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Davis, who had spent ten seasons with numerous organizations, was 35 years old.

An autopsy has not yet revealed the cause of death.
