Authorities Recover Body Of Construction Worker Missing After Collapse Of Key Bridge

Authorities announced on Friday that they have successfully recovered the body of one of the four construction workers who were still missing after the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, a 38-year-old individual, has been identified by the Unified Command as the recovered person. Authorities have already notified his family about the situation.

Unified Command salvage dive teams made a significant discovery around 10:30 a.m. ET on Friday when they located what they believed to be the missing construction worker. Immediately, they informed the Maryland Department of State Police about their findings. In response, state police swiftly deployed a recovery team, accompanied by dive teams from law enforcement partners, to retrieve Suazo-Sandoval’s body.

According to Gustavo Torres, the executive director of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the father of two immigrated from Honduras over 17 years ago. He had a dream of starting a small business and he brought joy and humor to his family, as Torres shared with reporters last week.

The police have identified the workers as Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, aged 35, a Mexican native residing in Baltimore, and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, aged 26, a Guatemalan native living in Dundalk, Maryland.

Mayor Brandon Scott of Baltimore expressed relief and a step closer to closure as the recovery of the third victim took place. He emphasized that his heart remains with the families who are still anxiously waiting for their loved ones.

In a heartfelt gesture, Biden expressed his gratitude to the first responders for their dedicated efforts. Additionally, he had planned to meet with the family members of the six workers who tragically lost their lives in the bridge disaster.

“They worked diligently through the night, tirelessly repairing potholes on a heavily traversed bridge that served as a vital route for tens of thousands of travelers each day,” shared White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during a briefing on Thursday.
