Trump makes false claims about Democrats’ stance on abortion during announcement

In a video released on Monday, former President Donald Trump made a false claim, stating that Democrats support executing babies after they are born. The video was intended to showcase his stance on the contentious topic of abortion.

“They advocate for abortion up until and even after the ninth month,” stated Trump in a video uploaded on Truth Social. “The idea of terminating a pregnancy in the later stages, and even carrying out an execution after the baby is born. That’s precisely what it entails – the baby is delivered, and then subsequently executed.”

During an announcement, Trump made a claim to clarify his stance on abortion, which has been a topic of debate due to his contradictory statements in the past. He chose not to advocate for a nationwide abortion ban, stating that the laws established by individual states should prevail. However, he did not explicitly state his position on abortion-rights ballot initiatives that are currently under consideration in various states across the country.

Trump has consistently argued that because Democrats do not express clear restrictions on abortion, it implies that they support allowing abortions up until the moment of birth, or even after. This argument of “infanticide” has been a prominent aspect of the abortion discourse for an extended period of time.

Abortions beyond 21 weeks are a rare occurrence. Multiple credible sources and fact-checkers have confirmed this fact. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, prior to the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade, less than 1% of abortions were carried out at 21 weeks or later in gestation. It is important to note that medical professionals only perform such abortions in cases of medical emergencies.

The Women’s Health Protection Act, supported by the Biden White House, has been a subject of discussion. As previously reported by Business Insider, the bill does not permit post-birth termination. However, it does allow for later abortions in cases related to “health” reasons. Anti-abortion groups have raised concerns about the vagueness of this provision, suggesting that it could potentially open the door for abortions based on psychological or emotional grounds.

According to a statement released by his campaign, President Joe Biden attributed the ambiguity surrounding abortion rights across the country after the Supreme Court’s ruling to Donald Trump, stating that he was “most responsible for it, more than anyone in America.”

In a statement, Biden commented that Trump is currently in a state of panic. He expressed concerns that Trump is apprehensive about facing the consequences of his actions in overturning Roe. Biden further speculated that Trump fears being held accountable by the voters in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Trump proudly stated in his video that he played a crucial role in appointing three conservative Supreme Court justices. These justices formed the majority that ultimately led to the overturning of Roe.
