Jimmy Fallon jokes Trump will attempt to postpone trial to mourn OJ Simpson’s passing

Jimmy Fallon joked that Donald Trump may even employ a creative defense—mourning the loss of OJ Simpson—to postpone his upcoming hush money trial, following a string of unsuccessful attempts to halt the criminal trial from proceeding.

Mr. Trump’s hush money trial, in which he is accused of 34 charges of manipulating business documents in order to conceal so-called hush money payments to buy news about his alleged romances before the 2016 election, is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 15, in New York.

The former president’s legal team has repeatedly attempted to prevent the criminal trial from taking place. They were unsuccessful in three last-ditch attempts to postpone the case.

“For the third time in three days, a judge just rejected his attempt to delay” the trial, Fallon explained. “Trump’s tried everything. He even asked for a delay so he could mourn the death of OJ.”

OJ Simpson died on Thursday from prostate cancer.

Simpson left a troubled legacy. He turned his football fame into a film career, swiftly becoming a household celebrity.

The “trial of the century,” which accused him of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman, eclipsed his earlier on-screen triumphs by 1995. They aired both the trial and the legendary vehicle chase that preceded it. Television cameras caught the police pursuit through the streets of Southern California, with the football star riding in the backseat of a white Ford Bronco.

Simpson was eventually acquitted.

Mr. Trump has not spoken out regarding Simpson’s death. However, Monday still marks the start of jury selection in his trial.
