Legal Analyst: Donald Trump’s New York Prosecution ‘Backfiring’

According to attorney and Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett, the New York criminal hush money prosecution against former President Donald Trump is experiencing a “backfire.”

On Monday, a historic event will take place as Trump, the former president of the United States, stands trial in a criminal case. This marks the first time in American history that a former president will face such a trial. The charges against Trump were brought forward by the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office following an investigation. In March 2023, Trump was indicted on allegations of falsifying business records. These records are said to be connected to hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign. Daniels had claimed to have had an affair with Trump in 2006, an allegation that he vehemently denied.

Donald Trump, the presumed nominee for the 2024 Republican presidential race, has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges. He firmly believes that the case against him is driven by political motivations.

According to legal analyst and commentator Gregg Jarrett, politics will undeniably have a significant influence on this case due to its politically charged nature. Jarrett, speaking in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, shared his perspective on the upcoming jury selection process, stating that as Trump’s lawyer, he would prefer to have individuals with a background in law enforcement or those who have had negative experiences with the legal system on the jury. These are the types of individuals that the defense team will be seeking during the jury selection process, which is set to commence on Monday.

“I believe that Biden Democrats and the media underestimate the intelligence of American voters. These underhanded legal tactics are seen for what they truly are – a malicious attempt to manipulate the justice system and steal an election. However, I think this strategy is actually backfiring. More and more people are viewing Trump as a victim rather than a villain, which has only strengthened his support.”

“I am confident that both legal teams are extensively researching the social media accounts, voting records, previous criminal convictions, and credit histories of potential jurors – essentially, scouring every searchable database,” Swafford explained. “However, it becomes incredibly challenging to uncover online trails if someone has meticulously removed their presence from social media or online forums. Furthermore, if someone outright denies having any biases, proving otherwise becomes even more arduous.”

According to a previous statement given to Newsweek, the process of selecting a jury for this case will pose a significant challenge due to the high level of familiarity and pre-existing opinions that people have about Donald Trump. Judge Juan Merchan may have to carefully review hundreds of potential jurors in order to identify a group of 12 individuals who can approach the case with a fair and impartial mindset.
