Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s 15-Year-Old Nephew Leaves Their Arkansas Home After They Relinquish Guardianship

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s nephew has finally left their large home in Arkansas after living with them for approximately seven years.

The Duggars initially took custody of Tyler Hutchins in 2016 because his mother, Rachel Hutchins, who is Michelle’s sister Carolyn’s daughter, was unable to fulfill his parenting needs.

Tyler currently resides with his grandparents, John Martin and Carolyn Jeanette Hutchins, in a modest 1,008 square-foot house located approximately 30 minutes away from the Duggar family compound.

A court filing on December 21 concluded that it would be in the teenager’s best interest for his grandparents to be appointed as permanent guardians.

According to court documents, John Martin Hutchins and Carolyn Jeanette Hutchins have been appointed as guardians of Tyler Wayne Hutchins. The main purpose of this appointment is to ensure the protection of the minor and his estate. The documents further state that Rachel, Tyler’s mother, is currently unable to meet his health, safety, and other needs. Additionally, the identity of Tyler’s biological father remains undetermined and is not listed on his birth certificate.

The court filing concluded by appointing John Martin Hutchins and Carolyn Jeanette Hutchins as the Permanent Guardian of the Person and Estate of Tyler Wayne Hutchins.

As previously reported by OK!, Jim Bob and Michelle made the decision earlier this year to relinquish guardianship of Tyler. They agreed to let him live with his grandmother and grandfather on a full-time basis.

According to court documents filed in June 2023, the couple’s statements state that they specifically agree to the appointment of John Martin Hutchins and Carolyn Jeanette Hutchins, the grandparents, as general guardians of their minor child, Tyler Wayne Hutchins. They also express their willingness to appear in any court of contempt jurisdiction for formal and legal guardianship proceedings for their child.

The reasons behind Hutchins’ decision to pursue custody of Tyler have not been disclosed to the public. In their petition, they simply stated that they were “legally qualified” and believed themselves to be the most suitable individuals to provide for Tyler’s care and well-being.
