A Goshen woman sues for $1.5 million after being falsely arrested

Candy Pinkham recently filed a lawsuit against Bernard Rivers, a police officer for the Town of Goshen and former candidate for Orange County sheriff, as well as four other law enforcement officers. The suit was filed last week.

Pinkham faced legal trouble when authorities arrested and charged her with unlawful imprisonment, obstruction of governmental administration, and harassment in connection with a domestic incident that occurred in March. However, the charges were eventually dropped.

A woman has been accused of using her dog to falsely imprison her son’s boyfriend, according to a lawsuit. However, police who visited the residence reportedly found no evidence of the alleged victim being held against his will.

The lawsuit includes Keith Donahue, Andre, Frontis, Justin Velez, and Jane Doe as defendants. All of them are sworn officers for the Town or Village of Goshen or Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Pinkham has also taken legal action against the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. It is alleged that they released the video in question after the charges against Pinkham were dismissed and the case was sealed.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office has been named in the notice of claim for confirming to News 12 that the case was sealed after we initially inquired about the incident last month. This confirmation was received from an anonymous tipster who provided us with the video.

“The displayed abuse reveals a deeply concerning erosion of civility and disregard for the law within the ranks of law enforcement, posing a threat to all,” commented Michael Sussman, attorney for Pinkham.

News 12 contacted the Town of Goshen Police Department and supervisor for a comment on the lawsuit; however, a response was not immediately received.

County Attorney Rick Golden firmly asserts that the Pinkham federal lawsuit holds no validity when it comes to the county’s two deputy sheriffs who are mentioned in the case. He is determined to vigorously protect the county defendants and will make every effort to have the lawsuit dismissed as soon as possible.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office declined to provide any comment on the matter.
