A man killed his long-term girlfriend and then sat on the couch, making phone calls until police arrived

A 57-year-old Connecticut man will spend the rest of his life in prison for savagely killing his longtime girlfriend, stabbing her to death before sitting on her couch and calling people to tell them what he had done while waiting for police.

Superior Court Judge Christopher A. Pelosi sentenced Kevin Bard to 70 years in a state penitentiary facility for the 2020 murder of 58-year-old Catherine Streeto-Michaud, authorities stated.

According to court records examined by Law & Crime, a New Britain jury convicted Bard in December of one count of murder, three counts of breaking a protective order, and one count of violating a standing criminal protective order. Pelosi sentenced Bard to 50 years for murder, 10 years for violating the protective order, and 10 years for violating the criminal order, with the terms to run consecutively, meaning one after the other.

According to a news release from the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office, prosecutors during the trial presented evidence that after Bard murdered Streeto-Michaud, he called several family members and acquaintances and admitted to killing her inside her house.

“State’s Attorney Watson extends his sincerest condolences to Ms. Streeto-Michaud’s family and friends for the loss of their beloved, whom they described as a kind and vibrant woman,” the state’s attorney’s office said in a statement. “This was a senseless and horrific crime, and we are grateful for the ability to seek justice on behalf of Ms. Streeto-Michaud and her family, as well as the people of the State of Connecticut, who have too often witnessed the deadly consequences of domestic violence.”

According to court documents obtained by the Hartford Courant, Bard had been prosecuted and convicted of domestic violence multiple times prior to their deadly altercation, and he was barred from being near Streeto-Michaud when he killed her.

One of Bard’s buddies contacted 911 to report the incident, claiming that Bard had just called him and said he had slain Streeto-Michaud.

When cops arrived at Streeto-Michaud’s residence on Vance Drive, they reportedly discovered Bard seated on the living room couch, talking on the phone.

“He was making other phone calls, letting people know what he had done,” Bristol Police Det. Lt. Kevin Morrell told the Courant in 2020.

Authorities reportedly reported finding Streeto-Michaud in her bedroom with a single stab wound. She was pronounced deceased on the spot. The arresting cops reportedly stated that Bard was unemotional and showed no remorse following the fatal attack, and that he seemed to be inebriated.
