According to prosecutors, the NJOAG appointed the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office to conduct an independent investigation into the case because it involved an in-custody death.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.

“Foul play is not suspected at this time,” a spokeswoman stated.

On June 13, 2023, Brown was arrested and charged in connection with his daughter’s shooting death inside an apartment at 331 Ave. E. in Bayonne, according to prosecutors.

Bayonne Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot and discovered Keyanna Brown, 28, who had been shot in the upper chest.

Errol was charged with murder and unlawful weapon possession.
