Alina Habba Urges Against Legal Action For Joe Biden In Laken Riley Case

Aiexpress – Alina Habba, Donald Trump’s lawyer, expressed her opinion on Sunday regarding the potential legal action that President Joe Biden may face following the tragic death of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley. According to Habba, resorting to legal measures is not always the solution to such concerns.

26-year-old Venezuelan migrant, Jose Antonio Ibarra, has been taken into custody under suspicion of killing Riley in Athens, Georgia. UGA Police Chief Jeffrey Clark revealed on Friday that Ibarra is not a U.S. citizen and stated, “I am currently unaware of his complete immigration status.”

As tensions at the southern border continue to escalate, many Republicans are pointing fingers at Biden, blaming him for Riley’s death during ongoing investigations.

The president is facing criticism from both Democrats and Republicans for his approach to the U.S.-Mexico border situation, as the number of migrant border crossings remains alarmingly high. According to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), there were over 2.4 million encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border in the 2023 fiscal year, compared to approximately 1.7 million in 2021.

During an interview with Newsmax on Sunday, host Lidia Bastianich asked Habba if there is a possibility to sue Biden for Riley’s death and whether the president bears responsibility for it.

According to Habba, although she holds Biden accountable for the situation, she emphasizes the importance of prioritizing border security over resorting to lawsuits as a solution.

According to Habba, lawsuits and litigation may not always be the most effective solution. He believes that these legal processes can be time-consuming, unless you’re someone like Trump. Instead, Habba emphasizes the importance of focusing on securing our borders rather than wasting time and resources on pursuing monetary compensation through the legal system.

Habba further elaborated on her viewpoint by highlighting the assertion of presidential immunity in Trump’s Washington, D.C. election interference case.

“It’s a challenging question for me to respond to as I serve as an attorney for a former president, and it is crucial to protect the immunities granted to presidents. I genuinely believe that presidents should have immunity to effectively fulfill their responsibilities. This applies to all presidents,” stated Habba.

Earlier this month, a federal appeals court made a ruling that denies Trump immunity from criminal prosecution. This ruling allows special counsel Jack Smith to move forward with prosecuting Trump on four criminal charges that are connected to his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. In August 2023, the Department of Justice (DOJ) indicted Trump for his alleged involvement in the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. Despite the charges, the former president has pleaded not guilty and claims that the case against him is driven by political motives.

Trump, who is currently leading the Republican Party in the 2024 presidential election, has expressed his intention to challenge the ruling in the Supreme Court. As a result, the trial, initially scheduled for March 4, 2024, may face further delays until a decision is reached by the Court.

In a recent development, Habba, a prominent figure, has shared his thoughts regarding the unfortunate incident. It is worth noting that Georgia Rep. Mike Collins, a Republican from Athens, took to social media to express his opinion on the matter. On X, formerly known as Twitter, Collins held President Biden and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas accountable for Riley’s untimely demise. Additionally, he pointed fingers at Athens’ sanctuary city status as a contributing factor.

Georgia state senator Jason Esteves, a Democrat, responded to Republicans by posting on X that the family of Laken Riley deserves respect and should not be exploited for political gain. He pointed out that those who are concerned about border security should direct their concerns towards Donald Trump, who influenced Republicans in Washington DC to set aside a bipartisan border security bill.
