Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has criticized tech billionaire Elon Musk for sharing a baseless post that promotes anti-immigration sentiments.
In response to a post by Mr. Musk claiming that Democrats want to “import voters,” the progressive New York lawmaker pointed out a clear fact on Thursday.
“You’re an immigrant, literally,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez pointed out. Mr. Musk, who was born and raised in South Africa, made the move to Canada in 1988 before eventually settling in the United States.
The lawmaker reiterated that seeking asylum is a legal process, in response to those who argue that their actions are legal.
Elon Musk shared a headline from The Daily Caller, a right-wing media outlet, on his Twitter account. The headline read, “Biden Considering Granting Amnesty, Handing Out Green Cards to Illegal Immigrants.” According to the article, which cites reporting from Politico, the Biden administration is considering opening up access to cancellation of removal. This process allows undocumented immigrants who have lived in the country for more than ten years and have resident relatives who would suffer if they were deported to become US citizens.
Both articles failed to mention Mr. Musk’s baseless allegation that Democrats are attempting to “import voters.”
In response to Mr. Musk’s comment, the Congresswoman swiftly replied, “She’s simply not very intelligent.”
“The House is currently conducting crucial votes in DC tonight, causing a frenzy among individuals trying to prevent a shutdown. However, this Republican Congressman made the choice to leave town and engage in a joyride with a billionaire. It’s worth noting that his own party is currently facing a narrow margin and relies on every vote, making his absence particularly significant,” she expressed on X.
When The Independent reached out to Elon Musk for comment, they received an auto-reply message stating, “Busy now, please check back later.”
