Leah Smith, a beloved TikTok star, passed away on Monday following her courageous fight against a rare bone cancer. Her boyfriend shared the devastating news in a heartfelt post on her TikTok account the following day.
At just 22 years old, Smith chronicled her fight against Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone disease that primarily affects children and young adults, through TikTok.
In 2020, the English TikToker, with over half a million followers, shared her diagnosis. She discovered the shocking news after losing all feeling in her left leg and consulting a doctor. Prior to her diagnosis, she had neglected 10 months of back pain, unaware of the dreadful underlying cause.
A friend of Smith initiated a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe to collect funds for Smith’s alternative treatment since her cancer had advanced to stage 4 and spread to her lungs. The campaign successfully raised close to $10,000.
Smith chronicled her fight against the disease throughout the year, up until her last moments. On Wednesday, she shared a final video where she directly addressed her followers. Soon after, her mother shared heartbreaking messages, revealing that Smith had lost her ability to move or speak by the weekend.
Just hours before, there were updates regarding the heartbreaking news of the passing of Smith’s girlfriend, Andrew Moore. In a video released on Monday, Moore, visibly emotional, shared that Smith had passed away at approximately 11:30 a.m. that day.
He said, “We will always remember Leah and ensure that she is never forgotten.”
Moore mentioned that Smith diligently read through every comment left on her videos, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support she received during her struggle. As of Tuesday afternoon, the video announcing her passing had garnered nine million views and received 63,000 comments.
Moore expressed her gratitude, stating that the kind words from others hold a deeper meaning than they may realize. Liam, Smith’s brother, also took a moment to thank everyone for their support and the significant impact it has had on Leah and their family.
