During a memorial service for William Garner, Jennifer Garner’s father, Ben Affleck, and his ex-wife’s 15-year-old daughter, Seraphina Rose Affleck, now known as Fin, spoke publicly for the first time using their new names and their pronouns. On April 6, an emotional event took place at Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston, West Virginia.
Fin, clad in a sober black suit and tie, appeared composed as he addressed the assembly. Fin, with his buzzcut hair, radiated a quiet strength that echoed throughout the chapel. This public recognition of their identification is a significant step forward in Fin’s journey.
Fin introduced himself in front of those there, as well as thousands watching the event live on Facebook, stating, “Hello, my name is Fin Affleck.”
Fin presented a chapter from the Book of Proverbs that had special meaning for their late grandfather. Fin quoted Chapter 16, Verse 8: “Better is a little with righteousness than a large income with injustice.”
Fin found strength in unity as he stood with his siblings Violet, Samuel, and cousins to honor their grandfather’s memories. They took turns reading from the Book of Proverbs, sharing passionate reflections on their beloved patriarch’s life and legacy.

Earlier this year, Fin decided to change their hairstyle and opted for a buzzcut, which perfectly reflects their gender expression. In a heartwarming gesture, they also sported a personalized backpack with the name “Fin” embroidered on it, a small but powerful affirmation of their chosen name.
