Biden’s campaign wasted no time in addressing Trump’s stance on abortion after the former president shared his announcement on social media early Monday. Democrats have long cautioned that abortion would play a pivotal role in the general election, and Biden’s announcement provided them with a renewed opportunity to discuss the matter.
During the Chicago event, Biden expressed his belief that Trump is feeling the pressure and is aware of the trouble he is in. Biden highlighted a recent video released by Trump in which he appears to be scrambling on the abortion issue. Biden suggested that Trump is concerned about being held accountable by voters for overturning Roe v. Wade and the negative consequences that have resulted from it. Biden also emphasized that voters will not overlook the extreme six-week bans and will hold Trump accountable for them.
Earlier today, the Biden campaign released a compelling digital ad that highlights the story of a Texas woman who experienced a miscarriage and faced life-threatening complications due to the refusal of doctors in the state to perform an abortion.
The campaign posted on Biden’s account, stating, “Trump did this.”
Earlier in the day, the campaign organized a press call featuring Kaitlyn Kash, a Texas woman who was compelled to leave the state in order to obtain an abortion. Kaitlyn’s situation arose from the heartbreaking reality that her baby had a severe condition and had slim chances of surviving childbirth.
Asset manager Michael Sacks and Chicago Cubs co-owner Laura Ricketts, along with their spouses, co-hosted the Chicago fundraiser.
Both Sacks and Pritzker are generous contributors to the Democratic Party. In fact, Sacks is currently heading the host committee for the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago. This high-profile event is anticipated to generate a substantial $2.5 million for the Biden Action Fund, which supports both the Biden for President campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
The event was attended by a diverse group of guests, including media executive and Democratic donor Fred Eychaner. MK Pritzker, the wife of Governor JB Pritzker, was also in attendance, although the governor himself was unable to make it as he was in southern Illinois to witness the eclipse.
The guests found themselves in a room filled with art, located in Sacks’ high-rise just off Michigan Avenue. While outside, protesters expressed their anger towards the Israel-Hamas war, their voices remained unheard within the confines of the room.
After the eclipse, Biden arrived in Chicago and delivered a speech in Wisconsin where he unveiled a new plan aimed at assisting individuals in relieving their student debt.
Democrats across the nation wasted no time seizing the opportunity presented by Trump’s recent video. In the nearly four-and-a-half minute clip, the former president boasted about his role in dismantling Roe and advocated for allowing individual states to decide on the extent of abortion restrictions.
Before the announcement, there was mounting pressure on Trump to take a definitive stance after considering a complete ban on abortions after 15 weeks for several weeks. Privately, the former president expressed concern that the issue could be politically damaging for Republicans, particularly if they do not support exemptions for the mother’s life and health.
Biden, although he has previously shown some discomfort discussing abortion, has made it clear that he is committed to reinstating the legislation of Roe v. Wade if he has the opportunity. He views the upcoming election as a crucial moment for women’s reproductive rights. This stance sharply contrasts with Trump and Republicans, who have faced challenges in establishing a unified position following the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision.
