Biden declines House Republicans’ request to testify in impeachment inquiry

The White House has dismissed the request made by House Republicans for President Joe Biden to testify in their struggling impeachment inquiry.

In a letter addressed to House Intelligence Committee chair James Comer, Richard Sauber, the special counsel to the president, expressed his views on the recent invitation extended to the president to testify. Sauber referred to the invitation as a “partisan charade.”

House Republicans have been searching without success for any incriminating evidence suggesting that Mr. Biden utilized his position to benefit his family and assist their foreign business ventures. These allegations, which include unverified claims of bribery, have yet to be substantiated.

According to Mr. Sauber, the so-called “impeachment inquiry” conducted by your Committee has only managed to uncover ample evidence that the President has not committed any wrongdoing.

He added that your investigation clearly shows that you do not care about the facts, as you continue to promote these false and unsupported allegations despite having plenty of evidence to prove otherwise.

Next month, Mr. Sauber will be departing from the White House, which could potentially indicate that the House Republicans’ endeavors to impeach Mr. Biden are nearing their conclusion.

In 2022, Mr. Sauber was appointed to the White House to spearhead the administration’s efforts in addressing the congressional investigations, coinciding with the Democrats’ potential loss of their majority in Congress during the upcoming midterms. Ultimately, the Democrats narrowly lost control of the House, while managing to retain control of the Senate.

Mr. Comer requested Mr. Biden to provide an explanation, under oath, regarding any involvement he may have had in his family’s businesses.

The chair claims that the Bidens leveraged their family name for business opportunities. The committee attempts to establish a connection between a handful of phone calls or dinner meetings involving Mr. Biden and his son Hunter, as well as his business associates, during Mr. Biden’s tenure as vice-president or when he was not in office.

After conducting interviews with numerous witnesses, including Hunter Biden and the president’s brother, James Biden, the committee has failed to present any evidence that directly connects the president to his family businesses or demonstrates any personal gain from their activities.
