Biden to visit Baltimore next week following bridge collapse

President Biden announced that he will be visiting the site of the collapse in Surfside, Florida, along with Maryland Governor Wes Moore. In response to the tragic incident, Biden expressed his intention to visit the site as soon as possible.

The cargo ship Dali collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Interstate 695 around 1:30 a.m., resulting in the collapse of almost the entire steel structure into the water. The cargo ship was en route to Sri Lanka at the time of the incident.

In response to inquiries about when the bridge will be reopened, Buttigieg expressed the need for the administration to assess the condition of its infrastructure before determining a timeline. He acknowledged that it will take some time to address the issue.

He also mentioned that the construction of the original bridge took five years. However, he emphasized that this does not necessarily indicate that it would take the same amount of time to replace it.

Eight construction workers were working on fixing potholes on the bridge on Tuesday when a container ship lost power and crashed into the bridge. The collapse resulted in two survivors, while divers found two others in the water. Unfortunately, four workers are still missing.
