Donald Trump clinches GOP nomination

Former President Trump is projected to win the GOP primary in Washington, which would secure his position as the Republican presidential nominee and pave the way for a highly anticipated rematch against President Biden, as reported by Decision Desk HQ.

According to DDHQ, Trump is projected to secure a minimum of 1,215 delegates, which is the required number to secure the Republican nomination. Prior to the Tuesday primaries, Trump had already amassed 1,077 delegates. This meant that he only needed an additional 138 delegates to reach the minimum threshold.

In the recent GOP nominating contests held in Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi, and Washington state, a total of 161 delegates were at stake.

Despite the fact that rival Nikki Haley had dropped out of the GOP primary last week, it was uncertain if the former U.N. ambassador would still receive votes as a form of protest against Trump.

The Tuesday primaries marked the end of a Republican presidential contest that held little surprise. Although numerous GOP candidates vied for the nomination against the former president, only Trump and Haley were left standing by the time of the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 23.
