Donald Trump On Social Security, Medicare Cuts: ‘there Is A Lot You Can Do’

Former President Trump stated on Monday that there are plenty of options available to reduce funding for entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare.

During his first interview since President Biden’s State of the Union address, Trump made an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” Host Joe Kernen observed that while there may be “stark policy differences” between Trump and Biden, there might be less disparity when it came to the essential entitlement programs.

Kernen inquired whether Trump had altered his perspective on how to manage the entitlement programs.

According to Trump, there are various actions that can be taken to address entitlements, including cutting them and addressing issues related to theft and mismanagement. He believes that there are numerous possibilities for reform and does not fully agree with the given statement.

In response to the interview, Biden took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Not on my watch.”

In an unexpected turn during his recent address, President Biden took a moment to urge Republicans to safeguard Social Security and Medicare.

“We have two options ahead of us: Republicans can choose to reduce Social Security and provide more tax breaks to the wealthy,” Biden declared. In response to the disapproval expressed by Republican lawmakers, Biden retorted, “Oh, is that not what you guys want? Don’t you desire another $2 trillion tax cut? I had assumed that was part of your plan.”

During budget discussions last year, Republicans raised the possibility of reducing Social Security benefits. The Republican Study Committee even released a proposed fiscal 2024 budget that included substantial cuts to the program.

During that time, Trump strongly advised Republicans to abandon the proposal, emphasizing that they should not vote to reduce any funding from Medicare or Social Security.
