Eiffel Tower Reopens To Visitors Following Six-day Employee Strike

Aiexpress –  The Eiffel Tower welcomed back visitors on Sunday, following a six-day closure due to striking employees. The workers were demanding improved maintenance for the iconic landmark, which was showing signs of rust, as well as salary increases.

The company managing the 330-meter (1,083-foot) tower announced that it has reached an agreement with the worker unions. As part of the deal, the company has committed to investing a significant amount of 380 million euros (around $412 million) by 2031 for renovation purposes. In addition to this, the company has also initiated salary negotiations, which are set to conclude next month. This move comes after the striking employees demanded a salary increase in proportion to the revenue generated from ticket sales.

The iconic 135-year-old tower will play a significant role in the upcoming Paris Games from July 26 to August 11, as well as in the subsequent Paralympics. To commemorate this special occasion, the Olympic and Paralympic medals in Paris will contain fragments from a hexagonal piece of iron sourced from the historic landmark.

The Eiffel Tower welcomes visitors every day of the year. However, in the past year, there was a temporary closure of 10 days due to extensive protests throughout France. These protests were in response to the government’s proposed pension system reforms.
