Florida Democratic Party raises $1.3 million in first quarter

Florida’s Democratic Party announced on Tuesday that it collected an impressive $1.3 million during the initial quarter of 2024, as stated in a release obtained by The Hill.

According to the state party, they received a total of 5,271 contributions during the first quarter, which was before the Florida Supreme Court’s recent rulings on abortion. In the aftermath of these rulings, the party has reported generating tens of thousands of dollars in additional funds.

Last year, the fundraising haul reached its highest point, and this latest achievement surpasses that milestone.

The executive director of the Florida Democratic Party, Phillip Jerez, proudly announced that they have achieved remarkable fundraising success in the past six months. With two consecutive quarters of surpassing the million-dollar mark, the party has raised a staggering $1.1 million in Q4 2023 and $1.3 million in Q1 2024. This impressive financial support has provided the party with a solid base as they prepare for the upcoming presidential election and work towards reclaiming Florida.

The state party has struggled in recent years to compete with Republicans, who have increasingly dominated the state. However, the latest fundraising numbers are a boon for the party, providing much-needed support.

Florida, a swing state that has historically played a significant role in presidential elections, garnered attention recently due to the rulings made by the state Supreme Court regarding abortion.

The state’s 15-week abortion ban was upheld in one ruling, while another ruling approved a ban on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, which will be implemented next month. Additionally, a ballot measure that aims to safeguard access to abortion in the state was given the go-ahead, pending its passage in November.

President Biden’s reelection campaign has recently released a memo stating its intention to focus on flipping Florida in the upcoming November election, in response to the developments within the state. Former Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-Fla.), who is currently running for Senate, has described these decisions as a significant turning point in the Senate race.
