‘Hamas Owns This Entire Catastrophe’: Fetterman Criticizes Media’s Lack of Coverage on Hostages in Gaza

Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, shared a message on Friday to commemorate the start of Passover next week and expressed his thoughts on the Israel-Hamas conflict.

With a sad Passover approaching, I remain determined to speak out against this tragedy and acknowledge that truly lasting peace cannot be achieved until the hostages are returned.” Fetterman wrote on his X account, which has become well-known for its sharp political commentary.

“We should always remember that Hamas bears full responsibility for this disastrous situation and has the power to put an end to it. They should release all the hostages and surrender,” emphasized Fetterman. He further underlined his stance by sharing a video where he expressed similar sentiments in his office, which was adorned with posters symbolizing the individuals still held captive by Hamas.

I’m here in my office and all of these hostages, they’ve been up on our walls for over six months, and that’s exactly where they’re going to stay until everyone is brought back home. And I’ll never understand why we’re not talking about that more, and why there’s not more stories about that in the media.

We don’t even know exactly where they are and if they are even okay. It’s very clear that we always make sure that we always talk about this and demand that and make sure until every last one is accounted for and brought back home. Because anyone [who] wants peace, we have to do this. And remember that if Hamas would just send everybody home and surrender all of the death, destruction and misery in Gaza would end right now. Our office will never stop talking about this until everyone is brought back home.

Fetterman’s stance on the Israel-Hamas war has alienated many in his party’s progressive base, who have also turned against President Joe Biden because of his unwavering support for Israel. The Israeli war against Hamas in Gaza has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, many of whom are civilians, and has resulted in a humanitarian crisis with over a million people displaced.
