Cell phones and other wireless communication devices are now banned in Indiana classrooms, according to a recent decision made by Governor Eric J. Holcomb. This measure aims to restrict the use of mobile devices during school hours.
Starting in July, the use of phones, tablets, laptops, and gaming devices will be prohibited during instructional time. However, each school system will be responsible for establishing its own policies to enforce this ban.
And Senate Enrolled Act 185 outlines several exceptions, including the permissible use of communication devices for educational purposes, medical purposes, and in case of an emergency.
Supporters of the proposal argue that its intention is to maintain students’ concentration throughout the school day.
