Indianapolis Police Make Quick Arrest in 5-Year-Old Girl’s Death

Indianapolis police made a speedy arrest in connection with a child’s death.

On Tuesday around 5 p.m., reports of an unresponsive child led Indianapolis Metro Police to Denver Drive on the city’s southwest side. The child, Kinsleigh Welty, was five years old and emaciated. She later died at Riley Hospital.

The Indiana Department of Child Services took care of the remaining youngsters inside the house. Police rapidly gathered evidence and arrested Welty’s mother, Toni McClure, 29, and her boyfriend, Ryan Smith, 27.

McClure faces charges of homicide and child negligence resulting in death.

Smith faces charges of child abuse that resulted in death.
