Former U.S. Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn has received endorsements from two influential members of the House Democratic Caucus.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) expressed her endorsement of Harry Dunn for Congress in #MD03. In a post on the social platform X, Pelosi proudly stated, “Harry will defend our Democracy and fight for the people of Maryland. He’ll work towards securing transportation funding, lowering taxes for working families, and protecting the Chesapeake Bay.”
In January, Dunn officially announced his candidacy for Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District. His profile rose significantly in 2021 when he testified before lawmakers about the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. During his testimony, he shared his personal encounters of witnessing attacks on Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police Department officers, as well as being targeted with racial slurs by the rioters.
Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) has also thrown his support behind Harry Dunn in his bid for Congress. In a press release from Dunn’s campaign, Clyburn expressed his utmost confidence in Dunn, stating, “it is with the utmost confidence that I support Harry Dunn in his run for Congress.”
Harry was initially known to me as a public servant who valiantly defended the seat of democracy. It comes as no surprise that he has continued to stand up for what is just and denounce the extremist dangers that threaten our democracy since January 6th. Clyburn’s statement further emphasized the importance of Harry’s background, personal journey, and selfless character in securing a Democratic majority that can effectively deliver results for the American people.
Dunn expressed his gratitude for the endorsements from Pelosi and Clyburn in separate statements. He expressed deep honor upon receiving Pelosi’s endorsement and mentioned that he has always held a great admiration for Clyburn.
Dunn’s campaign has garnered support from prominent Democratic figures, such as Representatives Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), and Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas).
