Biden is scheduled to participate in an event organized by Care Can’t Wait Action, a collective of organizations dedicated to enhancing the availability of child care, paid family and medical leave, and home-based services. Additionally, representatives from the AFL-CIO, AARP, and National Domestic Workers Alliance are expected to be present, according to a source.
In his upcoming speech, the president will highlight the positive impact of his agenda on care workers. He will emphasize the role of legislation such as the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the CHIPS and Science Act in boosting investments in this sector.
According to a source familiar with the matter, Biden plans to highlight the disparity between his proposed investments in caregiving programs and the potential cuts to these programs in the budget proposal put forth by House Republicans. In his budget proposal, Biden has emphasized the importance of investing in childcare and ensuring access to it for families with an annual income of less than $200,000.
Tuesday’s rally aligns with the celebration of Care Workers Recognition Month in April. In late March, President Biden issued a proclamation acknowledging the month and referring to care workers as “our Nation’s hidden heroes.”
In the proclamation, Biden emphasized the importance of supporting families across the country, stating that it is our responsibility to ensure that they are not left behind.
Roughly a year ago, Biden took a significant step by signing an executive order aimed at enhancing compensation for care workers, providing support to family caregivers, and expanding access to affordable care options through a series of directives to federal agencies. It is worth mentioning that care workers often face high attrition rates due to their low wages.
