John Fetterman on Iranian strikes: ‘It really demonstrates how it’s astonishing we are not standing firmly with Israel’

Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) said that Iran’s aerial assault on Israel demonstrates how the United States is “not standing firmly with Israel.”

Fetterman said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that there should be no limitations on giving extra aid to Israel, and he urged the United States to stand by its friend in the aftermath of Iran’s missile and drone attack on Israel over the weekend.

“A couple of things, actually.” I believe it highlights how astonishing it is that we are not fully supporting Israel. And there should be no conditions on any of that. “When a country can launch hundreds of drones at Israel, I’m not going to talk about conditions ever,” he stated.

The United States assisted Israel in repelling an aerial attack by Iran of more than 300 missiles and drones overnight. Top Israeli Cabinet officials are meeting on Sunday to consider how Israel will respond, although the United States has stated that it is “not seeking” a larger battle in the region.

Fetterman suggested on Sunday that Iran’s goal was to send a message following an alleged Israeli strike earlier this month that killed members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps at an Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria.

“And second, I believe that Iran had to have some pyrotechnics after Israel smoked the Iranian commander, and I am here for it.” I believe it’s all a matter of theatrical flair. And finally, it highlights how fragile things are and why we must lean in and support Israel,” Fetterman told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

He also declined to indicate what Israel should or should not do in reaction to the incident.

“Well, I’m not going to say what Israel should or shouldn’t do about it.” I believe Iran is happy. They have enough money on the table, as do all of his proxies around the region,” he stated.

“And Iran cannot compete with Israel or us.” So, I believe they would simply like to keep things as they are. And then, once they made their point, I believe they could go quiet and resume using their proxies,” he continued.
