Man who surrendered to authorities in NYC charged with murder and twin sister’s stabbing

The knife-wielding villain who reportedly slashed teen twin sisters, killing one of them, after they rejected his advances outside a Brooklyn bodega surrendered to cops Friday morning, authorities said.

Veo Kelly, a 20-year-old resident of Stuyvesant Heights, voluntarily surrendered himself at the 78th Precinct to address the accusations regarding the tragic stabbing incident that led to the death of 19-year-old Samyia Spain. The incident occurred outside Slope Natural Plus on Fourth Avenue near St. Marks Place, at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, according to the authorities.

Kelly has been charged by the police with murder, assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

As detectives escorted him out of the 78th precinct stationhouse and into a waiting unmarked car, Samyia’s older relative, Danasha Goodson, could be heard exclaiming, “The person who killed my sister is a heartless monster.”

The accused killer faced a barrage of angry shouts from the crowd, with some individuals resorting to profanity and yelling, “F–k you!”

According to police, Kelly allegedly approached the teens as they were walking to their local deli after leaving a nearby catering hall. It is reported that he attacked them in a fit of rage after they refused his advances. It is worth noting that Kelly did not know the sisters prior to the incident.

According to the court document, he was apprehended several weeks later and faced charges of second-degree robbery and second-degree attempted gang assault.

Judge John Zhuo Wang of the Manhattan DA’s Office granted supervised release with electronic monitoring, instead of the requested $20,000 bail, according to prosecutors.

On a Sunday, Samyia, the surviving teen, shared that she and her siblings had decided to take a break from their family game night to go to the deli. During their outing, they noticed an individual following them, as recounted by Samyia to the New York Daily News.

“I took hold of her phone and urgently told her, ‘Come with me, come with me,'” recounted Sanyia Spain. “I questioned her, ‘Why are you engaging with that boy?’ She responded, ‘I have no desire to converse with him.'”

In order to appease him, Samyia made the decision to share her Instagram handle with the man. According to relatives, the girls had encountered him earlier that evening at a nearby club.

Sanyia remembered the clear statement made by the woman, “She said she wasn’t going to follow him back. That’s it. She said ‘no’.”

Stop blaming others for the rise in crime, Mr. Mayor, and take responsibility for the situation.

According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, a man emerged from a nearby party venue and became confrontational with a woman, demanding her contact information.

“He became verbally and physically aggressive when they rejected his advances.”

According to Kenny, the police have obtained surveillance footage from outside the bodega, which captures the physical altercation but not the actual stabbing. The footage clearly shows the suspect wearing the identical clothing that was later discovered at Kelly’s apartment.

Standing outside a makeshift vigil near the victim’s Boerum Hill building on Friday, Lorraine Holloway expressed her disbelief and sorrow over the senseless killing of the teenager. Holloway had known the slain teen since she was just a baby, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking for her.

When Steven Spain, the father of the twins, laid eyes on the bloodstains still marking the street outside the deli where his daughter was murdered, he was overcome with a flood of emotions.

The tenant expressed his shock and dismay upon learning that the young man, whom he had known for a long time, had committed such a tragic act against another person.

“How far is too far?” pondered the concerned resident, expressing deep concern for the irreversible consequences of the situation at hand. In a heartfelt response, they shared their intentions to offer prayers for both families involved.
