Minnesota Woman Confesses To Drug Trafficking Following Arrest In Mexico

A Freeport woman has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges following her arrest in Mexico last year.

Deanna Marie Gerads, 33, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute dangerous narcotics in federal court in North Dakota on Tuesday.

Gerads was caught in Mexico on August 1 of last year and deported back to the United States. She had been a fugitive for more than a year, according to the United States Department of Justice.

Gerads’ case is part of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force’s investigation into international methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl trafficking from Mexico to the Midwest.

According to the indictment, Gerads and 11 others were involved in a drug smuggling enterprise that brought Class A narcotics from Mexico into Minnesota, the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.

The date of her sentencing is July 2.
