Mom accused with murder of 5-year-old twins discovered vomiting and frothing at the mouth in a NYC apartment: cops

The NYPD has charged the mother of the 5-year-old twins with their murders after finding them puking and foaming at the mouth in their Bronx apartment late last year.

Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told reporters on Tuesday that Gloria Asamoah, 42, is in the psych ward nearly four months after the discovery of her son and daughter, George and Gianna Kantanka, lifeless on the living room floor inside the family’s unit on East 175th Street near Weeks Avenue in Mount Hope.

“This time, we have an arrest warrant for mom,” Kenny stated during a media briefing. “She’s back in the psychiatric ward. She isn’t free to go at any time. She is there until physicians clear her, at which point the NYPD will take her to jail.

“She’s already been indicted for multiple counts, including felony charges including murder, times two for both children.”

By late Wednesday morning, she was still not in custody.

Investigators first felt the children’s deaths were a tragedy, with no foul play suspected.

Kenny reported that the family had no previous domestic incident complaints or open cases with the city’s Administration for Children’s Services.

“There was food in the fridge and plenty of clothing for the kids,” he claimed. “During school interviews, the teacher stated that the mother was very involved with the children and played an active role in their lives.”

“Neighbor interviews described her as a loving mother,” he went on to say. “We interviewed the father; there were no signs of concern.” This is one of the reasons we always emphasize that information is preliminary and susceptible to change.”

The municipal medical examiner’s office officially classified the twins’ deaths as homicides on March 13 after concluding that both George and Gianna died from smothering.

According to Kenny, the brothersโ€””special needs” children diagnosed with autismโ€”wwere ill and stayed home from school on the day they were discovered dead.

The child had been home from school the previous week due to cold symptoms that had persisted for up to two weeks.

The mother told police that his sister had an ear infection, had been vomiting, and was “acting irrational,” which included “biting and spitting at school,” according to Kenny.

According to law enforcement officials, the twins’ mother was so distraught by their murders that she was hospitalized for monitoring.

“She’s from Ghana,” Kenny explained. “She moved to this country when she was 23 years old. She lived in numerous states before settling in the Bronx with her 10-year-old husband.”

Authorities and sources said that the children’s father, who was working in Port Chester at the time, rushed home after learning what had transpired.

Kenny says they won’t charge him.

“I’m not good,” the devastated father told The Post the day after the deaths. “I lost my two children. “Not good.”
