On Friday, Charles County State’s Attorney Tony Covington announced that 32-year-old Waldorf resident Janae Elizabeth Bishop has been given a 30-year prison sentence, but all but 10 years will be suspended. Bishop pleaded guilty to multiple counts of child abuse last summer.
In February 2022, Bishop’s fiancé told police that he saw and recorded Bishop beating up the kids, who were 5 and 3 years old at the time. The attack happened in their Waldorf apartment.
The investigation found that Bishop was still sleeping in her bed early on February 17, 2022, while the fiancé got the older child ready for school.
Prosecutors say “the fiancé attempted to wake Bishop to take the victim to school; however, she refused to take him and began to make harmful statements and threatened to kill both victims.”
Bishop then got out of bed and took her kids to the bathroom. She filled up the tub with water, put her kids in it naked, and sucked their heads under it several times.
After that, she took them out of the tub and put them outside in the cold without clothes on. This locked them out of the apartment.
It’s important for people to speak out when something like this happens in their neighborhood. Asst. State’s Attorney John Stackhouse told the judge, “This really affects the whole community, but mostly these two boys.”
He went on, “Parents get mad.” Of course, parents punish their kids, but this is on a whole other level. There are lines you should never cross, and she did.
