Sangastiano, a parent with a five and eight-year-old, believes in the value of raising children in the city. However, recent safety concerns have made her question this choice. Despite not wanting to leave the city, Sangastiano feels that the compromise in safety is a significant issue.

A concerned neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, initially mistook the sound for fireworks. However, upon retiring for the night, she discovered wooden debris on her bedroom floor, specifically observing the damaged baseboard.

Last summer, she experienced the unfortunate incident of her parked car being struck by gunfire. Sadly, such incidents are a frequent occurrence in the neighborhood.

According to her, the instances of gun violence have been recurring at 17th and Independence as well as at 18th. She further emphasized that despite living through the crack era, the situation with guns has worsened.

Leaders need to take action, as she desires.

“I understand that the city council is making efforts to address the issue, but their progress is hindered by Congress. It is crucial for Congress to take action and address this matter,” she expressed.

The D.C. Police have not yet disclosed any details regarding potential suspects or getaway vehicles. If you possess any information, kindly contact the police at 202-727-9099.
